Few vehicles have sparked as much intrigue and conversation as the Tesla Cybertruck. Now, imagine building one yourself—piece by piece. Bringing it to life as a buildable MEGA model was an ambitious undertaking, requiring a blend of precision, problem solving, and technical expertise. Black Box Productions was tasked with showcasing this collectible in an engaging, visually appealing campaign that drove demand among Tesla fans and building enthusiasts.

The response? Overwhelming. The entire production run sold out, proving the campaign’s success in driving demand.

A Collaboration That Redefines Buildable Collectibles

MEGA partnered with Tesla to create a highly detailed, buildable model of the Cybertruck, designed specifically for collectors and kid-adult builders. Featuring over 3,000 pieces, an adjustable suspension, a functioning tonneau cover, and a foldable tailgate, this set embodies the innovation and engineering excellence synonymous with Tesla.

The goal of this campaign was to tap into the passionate community of builders, car enthusiasts, and toy collectors who appreciate design, craftsmanship, and immersive build experiences. MEGA wanted to elevate its brand presence among adult builders by highlighting the intricate details and premium nature of the car model.

Our Approach to Video Production

The Hero Video: A Dynamic Showcase of the Cybertruck Model

Black Box Productions developed the creative concept, script, and production design for the main 30-second commercial. The challenge was to showcase the model’s premium craftsmanship and engineering in a way that felt dynamic, compelling, and true to Tesla’s futuristic ethos. The video was shot using a mix of close-up macro probe lens visuals, dynamic gimbal and slider movements, dramatic lighting, slow-motion filming, and cinematic angles to emphasize the model’s sleek design, sharp edges, and intricate details.

By filming the toy model like a true car commercial, we successfully conveyed the excitement of the building process and the attention to detail of the toy design.

Behind the Scenes: A Deeper Look at the Creative Process

Beyond the hero video, we also created an in-depth BTS documentary to offer an exclusive look at the creative process that went into the production. This documentary-style video provided insight into the design and engineering of the model, featuring interviews with key figures such as Nicholas Proulx, the toy designer, and Melissa Chryssochou, head of the collector product line.

This campaign was met with overwhelming enthusiasm from the client, leading MEGA to approve three additional projects in the Collector Series. Following the success of the Cybertruck spot, Black Box Productions went on to produce videos for:

  • The Halo Needler Buildable Model
  • The Jumbo Pokéball Collectible

These projects built on the Cybertruck campaign’s momentum, reinforcing MEGA’s position as a leader in high-quality collectible builds.
